About Us
The Empowering Young Champions (EYC) Project exists to support young people to thrive, no matter the challenges they face. We help young people build confidence, emotional resilience, and the skills needed to make positive, informed choices in life.
EYC is rooted in lived experience. It is inspired by Elizando Yolande Carty, known as Annette, a mother who navigated significant adversity in her own childhood and as an adult while raising her own children with compassion, strength, and determination. Through this support, Annette sacrificed her own dreams of building a platform to support young people in order to protect and support her family from their own battles with multiple disadvantage and various other challenges.
The support provided allowed Annette’s children to navigate their challenges and they now work across frontline services including mental health, education, criminal justice, policing, sport, and youth work. Combined, they have supported thousands of young people and professionals affected by multiple disadvantage in their own fields, but have now decided that they will create an organisation of their own that aims to positively impact young people and families experiencing similar forms of adversity to them.
At EYC, we combine lived experience with professional and academic expertise to deliver tailored, high quality support. We use our expertise to help young people with making more well informed decisions, develop and maintain healthier relationships, and raise self esteem. Alongside this, we use our expertise to advocate for young people and families within the system.
Our approach is relational, person centred and most importantly, young person led. We walk alongside young people because we understand that although they have struggles, they will one day become adults that with care and support, will become citizens that can contribute positively to society no matter the size of their struggles.
